Welcome to episode #613 of Six Pixels Of Separation – The Mirum Podcast

Here it is: Six Pixels Of Separation – The Mirum Podcast – Episode #613 – Host: Mitch Joel. There is only one Tom Peters. He’s a legend. Literally. For anyone in business, Tom Peters is the gold standard. From his countless bestsellers (In Search of Excellence, Re-Imagine, and on and on) to his incredible public presentations. He’s a personal mentor to me (whether he wants to admit it or not) and I can best define him as a “cranky optimist.” Tom is back with a brilliant new book (seriously, drop everything and go out and get it) called, The Excellence Dividend – Meeting The Tech Tech With Work That Wows And Jobs. Tom spent a significant amount of his earlier years in California, mainly Silicon Valley (where he was on a list of “100 most powerful people in Silicon Valley”), from 1965-2000. Tom is a civil engineering graduate of Cornell, where he was included in the book The 100 Most Notable Cornellians, and he earned an MBA and a Ph.D. in business at Stanford. He holds multiple honorary doctorates as well and has been honored by dozens of associations in content areas such as management, leadership, quality, human resources, customer service, innovation, marketing, and design. He was in the U.S. Navy from 1966-1970, where he made two deployments to Vietnam (as a combat engineer in the fabled Navy Seabees) and “survived a tour in the Pentagon.” He was a White House/OMB drug-abuse advisor in 1973-1974, and then he worked at McKinsey & Co. from 1974-1981, becoming a partner in 1979. He also co-founded McKinsey’s now gargantuan Organization Effectiveness practice. In 1981, Tom founded Skunkworks Inc. and The Tom Peters Company. As for his book? Just take a look here. After his many (many) years dealing and consulting with the top brands and business leaders in the world, his latest book, The Excellence Dividend is truly of the moment. From Tom’s perch, there is perspective, insight and power that every person in business must pay attention to (and learn from). Enjoy the conversation…
